FAO-FAMEWS V3: Real-time monitoring of Fall Armyworm
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and PlantVillage at Pennsylvania State University collaborated to create the FAW Monitoring and Early Warning System (FAMEWS), a free mobile application for Android smartphones. This software is made for the real-time global monitoring of the Fall Armyworm (FAW), an insect pest that harms economically significant grown cereals like maize, rice, sorghum, and vegetable crops. When scouting a field or inspecting pheromone traps for FAW, the app enables farmers, communities, extension agents, and others to record standardized field data. In order to better understand FAW behavior and direct the most effective methods, the collected data offers insightful information on how FAW changes over time with the ecosystem.
